National Urban Sanitation Policy (NUSP) is adopted by Government of India in October 2008 to address the issues of urban sanitation and Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD). To support NUSP, Gesellschaft fur international Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is awarded contract for consultancy services for the “Preparation of discharge for canal side settlements in Cochin” behalf of Cochin Municipal Corporation.
Preparation of report on Discharge register for canal side settlements along 1.2 km of Kalvarthy Rameswarm canal in Cochin
Preparation of report on Functional and conditional assessment of septic tanks in slum area at Rameswaram colony in Cochin
Understand household level water handling practices and house hold survey
Identify multiple wastewater streams from households in pilot area
Flow measurements in selected drains and main canal
Functional and conditional assessment of septic tanks in pilot area
Determination of physical, chemical and biological characteristics of grey water, septage and canal water various locations like ten locations in drains, thirty locations at septic tanks and one location at slum area.
Mapping of point source and non-point source of pollution in the pilot canal stretch
Integrating sanitation databases with existing municipal databases
Compilation of all the output data with GIS mapping.
